International Clinical Trials Day 2020 takes place in extraordinary circumstances
An ACRP-led initiative intended to educate and inform the wider public about research carried out in the world of clinical trials, the event's focus this year centres on the work being done to combat the COVID-19 outbreak.
Barts Health NHS Trust is joining proceedings and encouraging members of the public to get involved. The trust, like many others across the UK, is running a number of Urgent Public Health Studies, and has provided guidance on how those who are interested can aid the effort.
Officially, the day marks the 270th anniversary of James Lind’s famous study aboard HMS Salisbury, which began on 20 May 1747 and resulted in the use of citrus fruits as a treatment for scurvy, something considered by many to be the first randomised clinical trial.
