Report on underrepresentation of Black and minority ethnic communities in clinical trials published
17 December 2024
In 2022, the Cancer Research UK & UCL Cancer Trials Centre (CTC) and B’Me Against Cancer (now The Rose Thompson Foundation) commissioned Dr Sophia Skyers of CIBS IQ Research to explore the reasons for the underrepresentation of Black Caribbean and Black African people in cancer clinical trials.

We are today sharing the report in full.

As part of the report, Dr Skyers has made recommendations to improve participation in clinical trials through several key approaches. The CTC is already working to address these, having created a variety of accessible materials and resources for those who take part in its research. We have also been organising educational sessions and community events (such as 'Bridging the Gap', held in Nottingham last month) to promote dialogue around the issues raised in the report.

We look forward to sharing more in due course, and in the meantime would welcome any comments relating to the report which you may have.
