The annual conference for the British Thoracic Oncology Group (BTOG) took place in Dublin this January, with members of the CRUK & UCL CTC’s lung team in attendance to present the SARON trial.
With over 700 attendees, the meeting included a variety of topics and discussions aimed at members of BTOG, a multi-disciplinary group for professionals dedicated to malignancies of the thorax. Over 3 days, the conference saw symposiums for translational research, respiratory medicine, and radiology, as well as updates from subgroups of the main National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI) lung group.
The presentation for SARON, a randomised phase III trial for patients with metastatic non-small cell lung cancer, was given by Dr David Landau, with trial coordinator Kate Frost and senior trial coordinator Yenting Ngai (pictured above) also present. The conference additionally saw data from another CTC trial, IDEAL, presented by Sindu Vivekanandan.
Laura Farrelly, group lead for lung and gynaecological trials at the CTC, remarked: ‘Participation from all was excellent and it was great to hear views of patient representatives being expressed and included. BTOG’s mission is to support and educate healthcare professionals to foster the development of research with an overall aim to represent the needs of patients and improve their outcomes; these were definitely achieved at the conference.’
SARON is now open to registration at sites across the UK. More details about the trial can be found
